About this sermon
Paul writes to a church that has already acted on a painful matter, and then tells them the punishment is enough. This program follows the turn in 2 Corinthians 2 from correction toward comfort, where the danger is no longer tolerance but a brother swallowed up by too much sorrow. Forgiveness here is treated as a congregational act rather than a private feeling.
