About this sermon
Ezra picks up when Cyrus lets the exiles go home, and the story that follows is less triumphant than the decree suggests: a foundation laid to mixed weeping and shouting, work halted by opposition, and years of stalling before the house is finished. The book's second half brings Ezra himself, a scribe set on teaching the law to a people who had nearly lost it.
