About this sermon
Amos came north from a shepherd's life in Judah and arrived during a stretch of prosperity that everyone had learned to read as God's approval. His oracles circle the neighboring nations first before landing on Israel itself: festivals God will not attend, beds of ivory, the poor sold for a pair of sandals. Let justice roll down like water, he says, and the line has not gotten easier since.
