About this sermon
Joel begins with a disaster the whole countryside can see - a locust swarm that strips the land bare - and reads it as a summons. Rend your hearts and not your garments, the prophet says, calling everyone from the elders to the nursing infants to assemble. The book's later promise of the Spirit poured out on all flesh is the passage Peter reaches for on the day of Pentecost.
