About this sermon
Roughly a hundred years after Nineveh repented under Jonah's preaching, Nahum announces that the reprieve has run out. The book is one sustained oracle against Assyria, the most feared empire of its age, and it reads as both a warning about national cruelty and a comfort to the small nations living under it. God is slow to anger, Nahum says, and he does not leave the guilty unpunished.
