About this sermon
Proverbs opens by stating its own purpose, then places two voices in a young person's ear: a father's instruction, and the invitation of those who lie in wait for blood. The fear of the Lord is named as the beginning of knowledge, which makes it a starting point rather than a conclusion reached late. The chapter ends with wisdom crying aloud in the streets and going unheard.
