Is Prayer Conditional?

John closes his first letter with a promise about asking — that God hears whatever is asked according to his will — and then immediately qualifies it. The lesson follows those conditions through the passage: the will of God, the sin that leads to death, and the confidence a Christian is nonetheless invited to carry into prayer.
