Part three brings the study of James 3 to a close. The chapter sets two kinds of wisdom side by side — earthly wisdom that breeds envy and self-seeking, and wisdom from above that is peaceable, gentle and full of mercy — and ties both back to what comes out of a person's mouth. The question underneath is what conduct actually demonstrates that someone is wise.
