About this sermon
The middle of this chapter reaches for images rather than arguments — brute beasts, wells without water, clouds carried with a tempest — aimed less at what false teachers say than at what their appetites have made of them. The lesson follows that into the account of Balaam, the prophet hired against Israel, and the way a love of the wages of unrighteousness rots a work from the inside.
