About this sermon
Proverbs 31 does not open with the famous portrait. It opens with a king setting down what his mother taught him — warnings about drink and indulgence, and a charge to open his mouth for those who have no voice of their own. This first of two programs stays in that opening section and the weight it places on people who hold power.
